Since moving to Hamilton 7 years ago, we have found that there are no activities or enrichment programs for these young adults with disabilities. Our Son Chance is a 30 year old Autistic young man with IDD, who is full of unconditional love and brightens up a room everywhere he goes! Though he is 30 years of age, he will always be mentally 10 years old, a big kid! He is capable of learning though, and with our planned programs, he and others can gain life skills towards independence.
We are a registered 501C3 non-profit in the process of purchasing land just outside of Hamilton Texas to start a respite day camp where young adults with similar issues as Chance, can come and learn various skills that will help them in life to be all that they can be, by building self-confidence and removing and or overcoming any barriers that may be inhibiting them from moving forward and being productive members of society, while at the same time have fun!
Our mission is to provide a Christ Centered, home style, safe and loving environment in which young adults with Autism and Intellectual Development Delay (IDD) can grow to their full God-given potential and be productive, self-confident members of society.
1. Arts and crafts, including ceramics, to be taught by volunteers and local artists.
2.Gardening; 100% organic: How to prepare soil for planting, caring for the garden and harvesting the garden for marketing and selling to the local community.
3.Cooking, canning from the garden, baking, and enjoying eating the fruits of their labor.
4.Other outdoor activities include nature trails which will be throughout the property in various locations, along with a fishing pond. Here campers will learn to be good stewards of what God has provided for us all to enjoy. They will be taught about different plants and animals of our area, to be identified and nurtured for the future. Our pond will have different species of fish to be caught, identified and released back into the pond. There will be different water plants in and around the area for aquaculture education and preservation.
5.It's not a farm without critters! We will have chickens for fresh eggs, goats and milk cows for fresh milk and donkeys for the equine side of the farm, along with a horse or two. Campers will learn how to feed and care for these animals along with the biology of each and what makes them tick and what roles they play in nature and on the farm.
6. We also will offer pet therapy which helps with socialization, anxiety issues, which builds confidence and improves communication skills.
7. There will also be fun and games such as basketball, corn hole, etc. Inclement weather days will include board games and movie days and/or other indoor activities which promote community.
All of these activities will be taught and supervised by our volunteer staff who are experienced with special needs individuals.
